How to setup Product Option

InkyBay’s Product Option feature refers to a group of custom product options, so you can create from scratch and then apply the option set to one or many products.

Without using 3rd party product options apps, use InkyBay to offer unlimited product options set with additional combinations for your personalized products and preview in real-time. Your customers can choose from the product page (e.g., file uploads, dropdowns, text inputs, radio buttons, etc.) before personalizing the product.

How to set up a product option

You can add an unlimited option set based on your needs. If you want, you can edit, duplicate, or remove the options set.

Step 1: Navigate to your InkyBay admin dashboard.

Step 2: Create new option set.

Click the + Add New Option Set to create your unique option set with unlimited variations.

Step 3: Add options to the option set and apply them to products.

  1. Options tab : The Options tab is the starting point for configuring an option set. It lists all existing options added to this set and provides the tools to add, edit, reorder, and delete them.

🎯Important

The additional tabs: Layout, Styles, and Preview — control how the options are presented on the product page and are configured after the options themselves are set up.

  1. Option set name: Displays the name of the option set. In this example, Customise Scarf. This name is used internally to identify the option set when assigning it to products. It is also displayed to customers on the Product page.

🎯Important

If you do not want to show the option set name, you can hide it under the Style tab by adding custom CSS.

  1. Option type selector: Click the dropdown to select the input type for the new option you are about to add. The following option types are available:

  1. Text: A single-line text input field

  2. Long Text: A multi-line text area

  3. Number: A numeric input field

  4. Single Choice – Drop Down: Customers select one option

  5. Single Choice – Radio: Customers select one option

  6. Single Choice – Swatch: Customers select one option

  7. Multiple Choice – Check Box: Customers can select more than one

  8. Multiple Choice – Swatch: Customers can select more than one

  1. Custom Size – Free Size: A free-form size input where customers enter both a custom width and height value manually. Use this for products with no fixed dimension constraints (e.g., banners, stickers, or cut-to-size materials) where the customer defines the exact size they need.

  2. Custom Size – Fixed Width: A size input where the width is fixed by the merchant, and customers enter only the height value. Use this for products that have a set width but a variable height (e.g., roll labels or fixed-width fabric cuts)

  3. Custom Size – Fixed Height: A size input where the height is fixed by the merchant, and customers enter only the width value. Use this for products with a set height but a variable width (e.g., shelf strips or fixed-height signage panels)

  4. File Attachment: An upload field for customers to attach a file.

  1. +New Option : After selecting an option type from the dropdown, click + New Option to add a new option row to the list. The new option appears in the list above with the selected input type assigned.

🎯Note

Check out Step 4 to add relevant option attributes to the option set

  1. Option name : Enter the name of the option.

  1. Edit: Click Edit to add attributes to the option and get relevant settings (based on option type) on the next screen.

  1. Apply Rule :  Apply the option set to products (custom or regular store products) with “Apply rule”. You can apply the option set to products in multiple ways. Select a rule from the drop-down. By default, it will be selected No rule, this means this option set is not yet applied to any products. You can selectively apply the rule from:

  1. Type: Apply this option set by using the product type from your Shopify products.

  2. Vendor: Apply this option set by using product vendors from your Shopify products.

  3. Tag: Apply this option set by using a product tag from your Shopify products.

  4. Handle: Apply this option set to a single product by using the product handle/URL.

  1. Enter option attribute details : Select/type the option attribute based on your selection on number 7

  1. Trash icon : Click the trash icon to remove the option. After that, all of its attributes and conditional child options (if any) are permanently removed.

Step 4: Add attributes to the option set.

After providing the option name, applying the rule, and selecting the option type, click on the +New Option (mentioned in step 3).

  1. Navigation: You can click here to go to different settings for the option. You will find:

  • Options: Here you can add/manage all your options, attributes, and images for option preview or conditional child options.
  • Layout: You can change the option set display layout using HTML code.
  • Style: Here you can add custom CSS codes to customize the option preview in the front end, swatch size, color, adding a border, position, or anything related to match  the theme style.
  • Preview: It will show how the option would look. Select Options to configure it (by default, Options will be selected)
  1. Options Title: Provide a title for the option

  2. Short Description: Provide a short description of the option. It will let your customers know about the option.

  3. Required: If you want this option to be required for the order, select Yes, otherwise select No. By default, No will be selected.

  4. Single Choice: If you want to change the previously selected Option Type for this option, you can do it from here by clicking and selecting from the dropdown list.

  5. Help Text: You can add option hints from here.  If you add any text here, it will add a help icon with the current option.

  6. Custom CSS: If you want to add custom CSS for this option, click here to add.

  7. Class : Mention the class/ID here if you want to match with your store theme.

  8. Title: Provide the options attribute name here.

  9. Value: You can provide value for the attribute here. This value will be shown in and with the order as a selected option.

  10. Added Price: If you want to charge extra for the attribute, put the added price here. This price will be added to your base product price.

  11. Default: Click here to make the attribute as the default. The attribute will appear as selected by default on the product page.

  12. Image: Click and upload an image for the attribute. You will be asked to upload an image for the icon, and the attribute itself. For the swatch, you can upload a 100×100 px image, and when the customer clicks on the swatch, the product image will be shown in the preview.

  13. + Child: If you want to add any conditional option for the attribute, click here. It will create a sub-option for that particular attribute. Then you need to add details to it, just like a new option (processes are the same).

  14. Delete: Click on the red trash icon to remove the options attribute, including all of its conditional child options (if any)

  15. + New Attribute: Click here to add another attribute

  16. Reorder: Click and drag this dotted icon to arrange attributes.

  17. Options List: Click here to go back to the options list.

  18. Save: Click the Save button to activate options with attributes.

Extended product options

If you want to add an additional option to an already created option set, then go to Product Options, then find the option set, and click on the Pen Icon as shown in the image below.

Now, go and select the Option Type and provide a type, then click on the + New Option.
